Fic - Separate Beings

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 12:35 PM
Hi everyone, I am posting the first part of my entry for [info]doubleexchange

Title: Separate Beings
Category: Open Fic
Pairing: Billy x Leesa, Kati x Patrick, Saji x Louise, and many other pairings thrown in…some you have to squint to see, lol.
Rating: PG-13…for now
Warnings: Long story is long!
Summary: After the events of S2, Billy and Leesa attempt to have a semi-normal relationship despite being on opposite sides. Will they be successful or will the world's ever shifting politics rip them apart?

Original Prompt
: Follow them each for a while (six months to a year?) sending emails or letters back in forth while Sumeragi's still in space and then Celestial Being decides that their work is done for now so they meet up and finally start a relationship, but after a while, Celestial Being calls again and Sumeragi goes, but Billy has to decide whether he gives up the army life to follow her into space or stay behind again. Time skips are alright to help move the story along. Obviously, post-s2 canon. Porn is optional.

not that it isn't a lovely song

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 10:22 AM
Just saying, if you're writing a songfic for a romantic, caring, rather fluffy sex scene... I really don't think you should use "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails (AKA the "I want to fuck you like an animal") song.

Seriously, can we say Soundtrack Dissonance?

A note on adding new family members

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 8:16 AM
Guys. If you have a character who defines him or herself by a single trait and then introduce an OC or a character from a crossover who supersedes them, please don't expect that they'll be perfectly fine and comfortable with this. Typically, the only way that there wouldn't be some conflict there is if the first character is a saint or if the new character introduced acts as a mentor - and the first character is comfortable enough to accept them as such. Sure, there are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part a hint of jealousy or resentment at having been shown up is a pretty human response, even if it's only a quick flare up of emotion that soon goes away.

You want to know when this will be of particular importance though? Try when it's an issue of family. A new family member isn't going away. Their introduction chances the family dynamic to a HUGE extent, especially if you're talking about immediate family members. A new sibling, a long lost parent or child - their presence is going to have a major impact for the vast majority of people, especially if they find themselves living with the newfound family member.

And when you have a character who defines himself on his role within his family and is suddenly superseded in it? Yeah, you've got a mess just waiting to happen. Case in point, you want to know who's probably not going to happily embrace a new older brother? Dean Winchester.

Dean was suspicious enough when the concept of a potential new younger brother came up; an older brother, and especially one who tries to take care of Dean, isn't going to find an automatic acceptance. And that's not even going into how Dean would react to Sam having a new older brother all of a sudden! Dean takes his role as the older brother quite seriously and is one of the few things about himself that he takes pride in. Add to this the fact that Dean honestly seems to have no idea how to let himself be taken care of and you've got a disaster in the making.

For that matter, remember how Dean deals with conflict, especially when it's in regards to his family: he internalizes it and then he gets angry. Yes, he goes incredibly quiet when he's truly hurt, but if you look at his canon responses, that is only after he goes all the way through furious first. It could be a fascinating idea and it's actually one I'd love to read but please, guys, keep Dean IC while writing it.

In fact, please keep any character IC when adding a new sibling or parent. People aren't always thrilled to have the new addition to their family, especially if they meet as adults. Sometimes they are thrilled, but the reality of getting to know a stranger and to immediately love them as a sibling can be difficult. Sometimes that love comes along, but it's not an instantaneous event. It can happen! But like any major event that occurs within a family, it causes ripples that take work to resolve.
Looking for something fun to do? Need something to start those creative juices flowing, but not sure what it is?

[info]fmagiftexchange is now open for business. This comm is not just for writers - I'm also looking for artists, icon designers, banners/wallpaper specialists, fanvidders and fantrack djs to come and join the fun and promote the holiday spirit, with an FMA twist. In other words - all creative types are welcome!

When It Was Me

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 8:18 PM
Hi! I'm new to this community and I just wanted to share a fic I made two years ago. I was just twelve at that time, so it might not be as, uhh... awesome as other fics, but I hope you guys like it. Oh, and I posted this last year in FF.net, I think.

Title: When It Was Me
Fandom: Harvest Moon (More Friends of Mineral Town)
Genre: Romance
Pairing: Graire (Gray x Claire)
FF.net summary: Mary and Gray have something, but Claire comes along. Gray stops visiting Mary to hang out with Claire, but how does our librarian feel about this? Graire from Mary's POV. (Sorry, I'm no good with summaries...)
My summary from what I can remember: Wangsty Mary ranting about how Claire, the ultimate Mary-sue, stole “her” Gray. Yeah, I'm mean like that.
Warning: As mentioned before, Claire is a total Mary-sue. What? I was twelve! How would I have known—uhh, never mind.
Other warning: Made ya look! There is no other warning.
Inspiration: When It Was Me - Paula DeAnda
FF.net link: www.fanfiction.net/s/4290236/1/When_It_Was_Me
Disclaimer: I do not own Harvest Moon or any of its characters. But I own this fic. Don't stealiez >:p

I remember way back when you used to look at me that way... )

Fic: With a Vengeance - Lina/Xelloss, PG13

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 6:21 AM
Thank [info]neocloud9 for this one; she sic'ed the plot bunny on me. <3

Title: With a Vengeance
Author: tsutsuji
Pairing: Lina/Xelloss (!!!!)
Rating: PG13
Warnings: violence, and um, character death? Couple little spoilers for Rev/Evo-R
word count: 6267
Disclaimer: I don't own Slayers and I'm not paid for this.
Summary: well,
[info]neocloud9 wanted a fic where Lina has to kill Xelloss, but can't do it. This is what I came up with. ^_~
Notes: This didn't end up where I wanted it to (meaning higher rated), but, well. I suppose there could be a sequel, just NOT THIS MONTH.
The idea has probably been done before, but if it has, I don't remember reading it, so I hope I'm not committing subconscious plot theft or anything...

Over here at my lil' ol' LJ if you please....

Dearest reviewers at FF.net:

If you have a complaint or a question about the fic, would it kill you to leave a way for the author to reach you?

And with that in mind:

Dear particular reviewer:

While most teachers will tell you that redundancy within a text is something you should avoid - and they are right to a degree - there is another side to redundancy that is often ignored and it doesn't necessarily have to be bad.

It helps create a tone. Using some key words within your paragraphs and sentences will help you create a mood and a setting for a story. While it would be dangerous for a whole book to have the exact same tone because it can get boring, this can really help when it's a short story or, in this case, a one shot fic.

I'm not saying that I succeeded within the fic, but I can assure you: I repeated words constantly within the fic knowingly. I'm sorry that it didn't work for you.

However, if you mean the fact that I use the names of the characters rather than 'the blonde', 'the brunette', or thing like that, and thus the names appear rather frequently? Then I'm very, very sorry, but I'm going to keep on using names and keep the epithet to a minimum.

Dear specific Clerith writers,

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 11:50 PM
Dear specific Clerith writers,

The next time you write a fanfiction for Cloud and Aerith... put it under Cloud and Aerith!! I am so tired of clicking on a fanfiction that has been labeled as a Cloud and Tifa, under Romance and finding out that it's all about Cloud and Aerith. I understand the whole,"But, its main focus is on Cloud and Tifa, and how Tifa is responding to Cloud and Aerith's romantic relationship..." Yeeeeeah. The ones that I'm complaining about don't involve or mention Tifa whatsoever.

Thank you,

Me.

Little YMMV

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 10:49 AM
Dear author,

Being best friends + having great sex + doing fun stuff together =/= being married. It calls differently in real life (like "dating", "having long-term relationship", if you aren't actually married or living together?). Marriage of any form in general requires all this components but is not defined by them.

Also, the thought. Acting “like old married couple” is not the same as “being married” either.

With love,

Me.

Edit for clarification. Two times

For any mistakes sorry in advance.

Yandere? Nodoka FTW?!

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 5:45 PM
Umm, I'm not so sure why Nodoka would need to make a deal with Ritsu not to shut down the club just to see Yui cause really they live pretty close to each other. So as such, I do not see why she would need to threaten non-con with Ritsu. And in regards to another fic, given how Ui was serving tea for everyone in episode 3 I do not see why she'd be getting jealous of Yui's friend or her guitar.

My character is a soldier and was very attached to his commander, who basically raised him when no one else would take him, whom he considered his father. Him crying because his father died, at his father's funeral does not make him 'emo', so you can shove your edgy jokes and you can stop commenting with said edgy jokes in said funeral log.

Also, when I tell you to stop said edgy jokes and you tell me to fuck off? I get mods involved. Don't cry to me because you got a warning.

Depression era medical school

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 6:46 PM
time: shortly before ww2 place: somewhere in the United States (not quite Real World, but functionally equivalent) search terms: depression era medical school, with and without appropriate quotes

Our Heroine is hired as an army surgeon (possibly technically a contract surgeon, depending on exact year, it hasn't been determined yet) some time in World War 2. (Yes, I know that female surgeons of that era would have been incredibly rare. She's atypical.) What I'm trying to figure out is:

1. How young could she plausibly be, if she started college at 17 and didn't have any delays in her education? (Money is Not an Issue, within reason, her family was very wealthy, and remained reasonably wealthy even during the Depression. Also, she's very smart and studied hard.)

2. How much actual poking around in live humans would she likely have done by that point? I assume (possibly incorrectly) that she would have to be a resident or something equivalent, or at least an intern, before she could go and be a fully fledged surgeon, even for the Army.

Answers, appropriate research sites, or better search terms all appreciated.

wallpapers?

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 10:35 PM
So my laptop is in need of a new wallpaper, and I'd love to have a little Lina on my desktop. So I'm asking you guys to recommend your favorite wallpapers -- either Lina-centric or ensemble ones -- to me! :D My screen resolution is 1280x800, but if you provide one that's larger, I can always crop it.

Thanks, guys!
